                                                            St Piran

St Piran is one of Cornwall's foremost saints and the patron saint of Miners.  His name can be found in Cornwall at places like: - Perranzabuloe, Perranporth, Perranwell and Perranarworthal.   His flag of a white cross on a black background can be seen throughout Cornwall.

St Piran is said to have arrived on these shores after having been cast into the sea from cliffs in Ireland.   Legend has it that this journey was made across the water on a millstone.   Where he landed, in the sand dunes at Perranporth, he set up an oratory.   The remains of this still exist, but are currently buried under sand for preservation purposes.   A model of the remains can be seen in the museum.

Several archaeological sites are linked with St Piran: - St Piran's Oratory, St Piran's Cross, St Piran's Well, and the demolished Norman church.
