Friends

1,    We very much look forward to people becoming friends of the Museum.   Apart from free participation at events such as lectures and gatherings, there is also a free regular magazine with information and items of interest.   Membership is just £10 per year (£15 family membership), and you have the knowledge that your contribution is helping to preserve the wealth of history in the Perranzabuloe area.

Membership is due the first week in January and we encourage you to use the standing order form below, as this greatly helps with collection of the subscription.   Should this not be practical for you, then a cheque can be sent each year.  If you already avail yourself of the convenience of a "standing order" please would you adjust the fee to the new £10, or £15 rate, our first increase for a number of years. If you have problem printing the form, we can send you one.

2,     Where friends consider playing a more active role in the life of the museum, there are opportunities for them to do so:-
a,   We have a number of volunteers who assist our curator during our summer opening times.   The museum could not open to the public without this help, but many find this a two way benefit as assisting the visitors with enquiries, or pointing them in the right direction around our resources, can be very rewarding.   The role is not demanding and during the quieter moments there is time for their own activities or research.   If you would like to become part of this vital role, look out for the training session we undertake in the spring, which is noted in the magazine and our web site "what's on" page.
b,  There are times when a bit of maintenance is required and anything we do ourselves helps with our funds.    If you would like to occasionally give some time to this cause then do let the committee know so that when we are arranging a session we can contact you (NB, committee on rear of quarterly magazine).
c,   Currently, artifact labeling is an ongoing commitment to our museum formal accreditation process.   Sessions will be arranged by the secretary throughout the winter.  As well as photographing and labeling the collection, there is much chat and a cup of tea.
d,   From time to time we have places available on the committee.   This is another rewarding role as the group are responsible for steering the museum to its objectives, formulating the years activities and fundraising.    We are much aware that the committee members are from the more "senior" section of the community, which of course has its merits, but some younger blood with a passion for the past, present and future of Perranzabuloe would also be welcome.
e,  At fund raising events, such as coffee mornings, there is usually a bric-a brac stall.   If you have some items that could help to raise some cash they would be most welcome.   These events are useful for friends to maintain contact over a cuppa.   Help is welcome, details are posted on the "what's on"  web page.
f,  Friends can encourage other people into membership.   We are self funding and membership subscriptions help with our objectives.   More membership also means more contacts and through this the museum collections have benefited.   A "loft" or "garage" clear out sometimes reveals an item from Perranzabuloe's past, which needs a home and this can make a welcome addition to the Perranzabuloe story.
g,  Lastly if you have a good idea, for example, a museum display, a fund raising event, a lecture, an outing, etc, do let the committee know.   They can consider the suggestion and if practical, support the idea to completion.   If you are a member you must already have an interest in our local culture, so we want to hear from you.
